It’s All About Your Perspective…

The above picture was taken from one of our camps on our 2018 trip out west. We were enjoying our supper as we watched the happenings across the valley. On the left, we have a rainbow, and on the right, we have a storm. There are lots of cliches that I could use for this picture, but I’m not going to use any of them.

Before you continue reading, take a moment to enjoy the picture. I wish the lens could have caught the full essence of what my eyes saw that day. It was truly beautiful.

Some may only focus on the rainbow, others may only focus on the storm, but we just happened to notice both. From our vantage point, both were beautiful, but if you were stuck in the middle of that storm, you may not have felt the same way.

There is a perspective that worries me though: no perspective at all. Before this picture was taken, I was consumed with the tasks that needed to be completed. Going from place to place, cooking, cleaning, and preparing for the night. I had things to do; I was busy.

If you know me well, you know that I am more of a Martha than a Mary. If that doesn’t make sense to you, I’m more likely to be busy doing something instead of enjoying the moment. I have no idea how many sunrises or sunsets I have missed because I was too busy to focus on them. In fact, one of the girls drew my attention away from tasks to the view that I share above.

Luke 10:38-42 NIV84
[38]As Jesus and his disciples were on their way, he came to a village where a woman named Martha opened her home to him. [39] She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. [40] But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” [41] “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, [42] but only one thing is needed. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”

May we not be busy with lesser things and miss the beauty of Christ and the gift of salvation that He offers all who will sit at His feet.
